The American Society of Civil Engineers, Los Angeles Younger Member Forum’s Student Night and Job Fair… Oh My Goodness, So Many Acronyms!

The Student Night and Job Fair is an annual event hosted by the Los Angeles YMF chapter. The event begins in the afternoon with a three hour Career Fair, then moves into a networking hour, and ends with an awards dinner. During the dinner, the students who received scholarships from LA YMF and the Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch (MLAB, there we go again with the acronyms) are recognized and honored. The event is a great opportunity for students to network with representatives and hopefully win a scholarship! The event culminates with the most coveted award - ASCE Student Chapter of the Year.

This year, the event occurred on February 3rd. ASCE at UCLA had 17 students in attendance, not enough to be the most represented school at the event, but this was made up for in the number of scholarships UCLA was awarded. Amberly Bark won the Patti Gadomski Memorial Scholarship, Ho-Shing Chau won the LA YMF Graduate Scholarship, Cayla Whiteside won the Leo & Pat Hirschfeldt scholarship, Ernest Ching won an MLAB scholarship, and Taylor Berryman won the Le Val Lund Scholarship. We took home over 50% of the individual scholarships! On top of this, ASCE at UCLA received the LA YMF Student Chapter of the Year award. This is an incredible honor and we believe that it truly reflects the efforts of our members and the achievements our chapter has accomplished this year.

Here’s to seeking more success in 2017!
