Wow! How has the Fall Quarter already ended? So much has happened this year so far, so let’s get into it…
We kicked off the year with a variety of events!
During Welcome Week, we were able to reach out to freshman and transfers at the Enormous Activities Fair and the Engineering Welcome Day. These are great events for introducing new students to our projects and encouraging them to come to events like Open House and General Meeting. We have also been collaborating more with the CEE Department; they have been sending emails out to the all the students in the department, informing them of ASCE certain events. This has truly helped us reach more students and we hope to continue the practice.

Thanks to our membership chair, Johnny Schmidt, Open House went smoother than ever before and we had a great turnout. At Open House, we were able to give the first introduction to our new Navajo Nation Water Project – an outreach project in collaboration with Engineering Without Borders (EWB) where we are working to implement a more effective, sustainable water sanitation and delivery system for a Navajo community in Arizona. The project managers for this project are Maxwell Armenta from ASCE, and Ryan Wong, and James Salem from EWB.
This project was also introduced at General meeting, where we had the wonderful Brooke Crowe - President during the 2013-2014 school year - speak about her love for ASCE and why students should join.
Already this quarter we have had some great professional development events. Our Fall Student-Professor Barbecue was well attended and we have had a number of information sessions from companies in various fields. Asia Reeves, our Conference Coordinator this year, did an amazing job with the ASCE at UCLA Fall Career Fair – we had 30 companies in attendance! We can’t wait for the Winter Career Fair.
Finally, and most notably, was our brand new Networking Night Event, put on by our Networking Night Liaison, Heather Wong. Drinks and appetizers were served at a restaurant in Santa Monica the day before the Career Fair and students and professionals were able talk and mingle in a more relaxed setting. This was an exciting new event for us that we hope to continue in future years.
We can’t wait to see what the remaining quarters brings us!
